Students make the most of multimedia
Combining the energy of youth, video equipment and Apple’s iLife software, teams of MU freshmen set out to win the Freshman iLife Challenge. The results reveal the healthy senses of humor and media savvy of modern students.
Take the Grand Prize-winning entry, “Life is a Musical,” for example. Students Matt Davis, Patrick Inlow and Steve Robertson from the Film and Theatre Freshman Interest Group (FIG) brought musical theater and a bit of satire to life through choreography, production and editing. Their musical romp features such themes as “test day” anxiety set to the tune of “Stairway to Heaven” and a boy-band send-up of their love for Truman the Tiger. Other winning FIGs tackled reality TV, video game culture and zombie movies, among other topics.
It’s all in good fun, clearly, but the challenge has a larger educational goal. Sponsored by schools and colleges around campus, Apple Computer and local businesses, the challenge teaches students valuable multimedia skills early in their college careers. View the student projects here.
